Acupuncture Kelowna Fertility Clinic

One of the many things we treat at Acupuncture Kelowna is fertility as well as other hormone-related concerns.

Since 2010 we have been working with women to achieve their fertility goals. There is growing literature surrounding how and why acupuncture works to help women with or without Western medical intervention. Many of our patients are working alongside the Doctors at Kelowna Fertility Clinic, and seek acupuncture as an adjunct treatment. However, we also work with patients seeking acupuncture and Chinese Medicine as their primary treatment. Ideally, we like to work with women prior to exploring costly medical interventions. This enables us to get your hormones into the most balanced state and thus can increase your chances of conceiving via natural or intervention methods.

How Do Fertility Treatments Work at our Acupuncture Kelowna Clinic

A typical course of treatment at our Acupuncture Kelowna Clinic for fertility will be dependent on your current hormonal health. Every person is different and Chinese Medicine and acupuncture honor these differences. Here are some common scenarios that we have experience treating.

1.     Irregular Cycles – If your cycles are irregular due to a pre-existing condition such as PCOS or if you have unexplained irregular cycles, Chinese herbal medicine and acupuncture can help regulate your system. We usually need a minimum of 3 months to do this. We look at dietary and lifestyle conditions and make recommendations based on our findings. Regular acupuncture treatments and in many cases Chinese Herbal medicine is required for your fertility treatment.

2.     Unexplained fertility – this can be one of the most disheartening explanations for couples. When nothing shows up in your blood work, all the tests look fine and you have had an unsuccessful IUI or IVF, what do you do? While Acupuncture isn’t a silver bullet for fertility it can and does look at the body’s systems from a much different perspective. Often there is unresolved emotion or particular stressors at play that are contributing.

3.     PMS – this is often a sign that your Liver/Gall Bladder system is unhappy. Chinese Medicine sees the Liver/Gall Bladder system differently than in Western, so please don’t confuse the two. Women who suffer from emotional upset and dysregulation, as well as headaches, bloating, depression, anxiety, etc. before their period, may be excellent candidates for Acupuncture.

Of course, there are more scenarios as to why a couple may be having problems with conception. Our Acupuncture Kelowna Fertility clinic has years of experience helping alongside conception journeys. If you are interested in booking an appointment and have questions as to which therapist might be right for you please read our about pages, call, or email us.

Here are some studies supporting the use of acupuncture during IVF.

  1. The influence of Acupuncture on the pregnancy rate in patients who undergo assisted reproduction therapy demonstrates that women who receive acupuncture alongside IVF have a 42.5% rate of pregnancy versus 26.3% in the non-acupuncture group.

  2. Effects of acupuncture on rates of pregnancy and live birth among women undergoing in vitro fertilization: systematic review and meta-analysis demonstrate an increase in the rate of live births.

 With you In health.
